An Old Photograph for Vintage Love Saturday

If you take the name "Conover" and reverse the letters, you have "Revonoc".  It might not be a household word today, but it was once a brand name.  This old advertising postcard shows a Rev-O-Noc clothes washer.  We are supposed to believe that little Erma wrote how much she likes doing laundry.  But does her expression say "joyful" to you?  Not to me.

Rev-O-Noc was one of the lines of hardware, tools and guns sold by Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett (HSB) Co. of Chicago between the late 1800s and the early 1980s. The brand name Rev-O-Noc came from a company employee, a Mr. Conover.

I'm posting this intriguing old card for Vintage Love Saturday.  This week's theme is Vintage Photographs.  I peeked at Southern Lady's Vintage and I see she's featuring stereoscopic photo cards!   Whew, I was worried everyone would do Rev-O-Nocs!

Thanks, Southern Lady!  I'm eager to vote on next week's theme while I'm at your blog.

Rednesday LadyBug Ball

If it's October, it's time to bring the ladybug indoors.  Put her to bed for the winter.  Let her put a smile on my face one more time this year.  She reminds me of that crazy someone who gave me the gift of slicing a bowling ball in half, so I could make a garden bug.  Good night, Ladybug, I'll see you in the spring.

It's Rednesday.  Hop over to SueLovesCherries and see what she and others have posted.  The color red rules today!  Thanks Sue, for hosting this midweek bright bright spot.

Maple Watch Monday

10.10.2010
This maple tree is a friend of mine.  In fact, we've been together about 25 years.  It's grown and changed a lot, as has my family.  Although it's supposed to be a sugar maple, the mid-Atlantic climate here has prevented it from getting that message.  So the fall leaves are never a blazing orange.  Most autumns, they do eventually turn a beautiful yellow.

My tree has a sense of humor, and it waits until all surrounding trees have dropped their leaves.  It watches for neighbors to tidy up their yards and put away their rakes.  Finally, it lets loose.  There is no question about the source of the bright yellow carpet that rushes through the neighborhood.

For the next several Mondays, I'll post a picture of my maple friend.  It's already changed since I snapped this photo; the gourd birdhouse has been put away until spring.

Speaking of maple, here's a beautiful antique rolling pin I just listed in my Etsy vintage shop, ThreeOldKeys.  I wonder if it came, long ago, from a maple tree with a sense of humor.
